Open Cloud Operating Systems

Open Clouds are changing the game in the cloud era. Open Cloud Operating Systems are the foundation to deliver Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) to IT Infrastructure teams behind their own firewalls in their Private Cloud with the freedom of Federation to the Public Cloud to build flexible and scalable Hybrid Clouds.

In the last decade Cloud Operating Systems have evolved to provide Infrastructure as a Service (IaaS) for private and public Clouds. AT&T, Amazon, Citrix, Dell, Deutsche Telecom, GoGrid, HP, ProfitBricks, IBM, KT, OpSource, Rackspace, Siemens and other big and small palyerrs in the IaaS Cloud Market are providing their infrastructure cloud services on top of closed or open source Cloud Operating Systems based on open source Hypervisors such as VMware's ESXi, Microsoft's Hyper-V, RedHat's KVM and Citrix's XenServer.

Currently Amazon Web Services is the Nr. 1 in the public IaaS and other public cloud service offerings, VMware's closed source vSphere and vCloud are empowering and dominating the private cloud by large and small businesses, there is a need to democratize the public and private cloud landscape!

The need for Openness in the Cloud, why?

In 2010 Rackspace and NASA decided to contribute their cloud compute and cloud storage as open source to the public, why?
In 2011 Citrix aquired Cloud.com and open sourced CloudStack and put it in Apache's incubator, Abiquo, Eucalyptus, Enomaly, Nimbula and other Cloud Operating System vendors are going and have to follow Rackspace and Citrix's strategie, why?
In 2012 HP is lunching her Public Cloud through her private beta offering to the public based on Canonical's Ubuntu Enterprise Cloud and OpenStack, why?
IBM and RedHat are announcing their support for OpenStack, why?

Do you know why?

Simply put, openness is a must in the cloud era, those who don't understand the need for openness in the cloud, won't survive, that's the reality!
